Consider Approval of Ordinance 872: Census Bureau Access to Multi-Family <br />Buildings. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Allen, seconded by Councilmember Burg to adopt Ordinance 872 to <br />Ensure Census Workers, both now and in the future, will have access to the City’s multifamily <br />housing buildings. <br /> <br />Acting City Manager Massopust indicated Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development <br />Gozola would be presenting this item to the Council. <br />Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola stated staff was tasked by the City <br />Council to advertise, promote, and plan for the upcoming 2020 Census to ensure all citizens of <br />the community are counted. To this end, staff researched and penned Ordinance 872 to ensure <br />census workers, both now and in the future, will have access to the City’s multifamily housing <br />buildings to successfully complete their census duties. Legal counsel was provided with a draft <br />of the ordinance and has already incorporated changes deemed necessary and appropriate for <br />the City of New Brighton. <br />Councilmember Burg encouraged all those living in New Brighton to be counted in the 2020 <br />census. She reported all those living in New Brighton were safe and should participate in the <br />census. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen discussed how residents equated into dollars for the City and <br />County. He stated this was a very good Ordinance and he would be offering his support. <br />Councilmember Allen commented on the dollars that were up for grabs for the State of <br />Minnesota and described how these dollars trickled down to local municipalities and residents <br />through programming. He encouraged every person in the City to participate in the 2020 <br />census because it had a huge impact on local government and the State.
