<br /> <br /> <br />Mr. Winkels stated it was his understanding the Commission would validate the concerns people have, to <br />condense the information and make it tangible for real time decision making. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dunsworth stated each Commission is tasked with making recommendations to the City <br />Council that comply with policies, rules or ordinances already adopted by the City Council. She asked Mr. <br />Winkels what he would do if he disagreed with a policy or ordinance already in place. <br /> <br />Mr. Winkels commented the role of a Commissioner or being on a Commission, this was not part of their <br />purview. He indicated he would work as a citizen to change an Ordinance and voice his concern if something <br />needed to be changed. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson discussed the expectations the City Council has of its Commission members. She reported <br />these groups are to support the City Council. He asked how Mr. Winkels would handle a situation where he <br />disagreed with the Council. <br /> <br />Mr. Winkels stated he would either step aside or get in line. He saw this as the only two options. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson asked Mr. Winkels based on how long he has lived in New Brighton and what he knew about <br />the community, what he sees as the City’s biggest challenge. <br /> <br />Mr. Winkels commented he did not know for certain but understood there was growth in the City along with <br />turn over. He stated the homes on his street were turning over, the original owners were moving out and new <br />families were moving in. He anticipated this was a challenge for the community. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen questioned why Mr. Winkels chose to move to New Brighton. <br /> <br />Mr. Winkels stated he wanted to remain in St. Louis Park but couldn’t find what he was looking for there. <br />Given the fact he had a child on the way, he expanded his home search to include school districts and this led <br />him to New Brighton. <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg asked Mr. Winkels which Commission strikes him as the most interesting. <br /> <br />Mr. Winkels indicated he was most interested in parks and recreation or public safety. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson discussed the process the Council would be following for the committee me mber <br />appointments. She thanked Mr. Winkels for his interest in serving and asked if he had any questions. <br /> <br />Mr. Winkels had no questions <br /> <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson welcomed Liza Allen. She disclosed that Liza Allen was Councilmember Allen’s spouse. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked Ms. Allen to tell the Council a little bit about herself and her experiences in <br />the community. <br /> <br />Liza Allen stated she grew up in New Brighton until she was 12 and then she moved up north. She explained <br />she has always worked in the community or been involved, either politically or with local government. She <br />indicated she was part of the local DFL and was a local caucus chair. <br />
