<br /> <br /> <br />Mr. Benke explained honesty was the best policy. He stated rat her than shout at a Council meeting he would <br />meet with this person off camera and explain why he was not excited or happy with what was going on and ask <br />this person to give their perspective in order to resolve the issue. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dunsworth questioned what Mr. Benke’s approach would be to work effectively with City <br />staff. <br /> <br />Mr. Benke commented he has always gotten along well with City staff. He understood sometimes there were <br />difficult personnel issues and he would want to keep things professional at all times. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dunsworth asked where Mr. Benke thought the City Council could improve the most and how <br />would you assist in improving that area. <br /> <br />Mr. Benke stated he has not been watching the City Council meetings much after being involved for 22 years. <br />He understood that things were going well. He commented he was willing to discuss, play it by ear, learn and <br />make decisions along the way. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson thanked Mr. Benke for his responses. She asked if the Council had any follow up questions. <br />There were none. She then inquired if Mr. Benke could serve as a City Councilmember and not the Mayor. <br /> <br />Mr. Benke stated he served as Councilmember for two years prior to being voted in as Mayor. He explained <br />he could serve as a Councilmember again and he would behave. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson thanked Mr. Benke for his time and commented further on the process the Council would be <br />following for this City Council appointment. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson welcomed Tim McQuillan to the Zoom meeting. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson asked what motivated Mr. McQuillan to apply to become a City Councilmember. <br /> <br />Mr. McQuillan stated he has thought about it for the past four or five years. He explained he has enjoyed <br />working with the current Council. He indicated he has watched a number of the worksession meetings and has <br />attended a number of the City Council meetings in person. He saw this group to be cohesive. He enjoyed <br />serving on the Planning Commission, the Inclusivity Committee, the Parks Strategic Plan Committee, as an <br />election judge and with Stockyard Days. He stated that since he has retired he wanted to become more and <br />more part of the City in order to hep it grow. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson stated one of the most important actions the City Council does was approve the annual budget. <br />She asked what Mr. McQuillan’s philosophy would be when it comes to developing and approving the annual <br />budget. <br /> <br />Mr. McQuillan commented he would consider his fiscal responsibilities to be conservative or middle of the <br />road. He understood the City was working on a number of housing projects at this time and had just completed <br />a 2040 Comprehensive Plan. He stated he was concerned about further economic development in the <br />community occurring, such as on the property north of 694. He explained he would like to see more <br />opportunities for development in the City. He indicated he liked the direction the City was going at this time. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson stated besides COVID-19, what issues does the City need to address in the near term. <br />
