He thanked staff and the team that was reaching out to the <br />residents of New Brighton for their tremendous efforts to build community. He thanked <br />Councilmember Burg for her humor, service and friendship. He welcomed Nasreen <br />Fynewever to the City Council. <br /> <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg thanked the Council for their kind words. She stated NYFS would be <br />holding their Leadership Luncheon virtually on Wednesday, May 6th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 <br />p.m. She explained this was a fundraising event that would help NYFS assist youth in the <br />community. She thanked the City Council and staff for being a cohesive unit while working <br />through and addressing COVID-19. She reported the Farmer’s Market would be open on <br />Wednesday, June 3rd at the New Brighton Community Center. <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg explained her retirement plan was in place prior to all of this happening. <br />She indicated her original plan was to end her term in December of 2019 and 2020 would be <br />filled by someone else. However, with the City Manager leaving she wanted to assist with the <br />hiring of a new City Manager. She stated she was proud of the developments that have <br />occurred during her tenure on the City Council. <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg reported she was proud of the work that was done at the Northwest <br />Quadrant and the affordable housing projects that were completed with the use of TIF. She <br />commented things were tense at times and she was pleased with how well this City Council <br />was working on behalf of the people of New Brighton. She looked forward to the Council <br />moving forward with more environmental initiatives. She noted she was proud of the fact the <br />City had moved to even year elections as this was a cost saving measure and had better voter <br />turnout. She commended the City Council for proudly leading together. <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg thanked Mayor Johnson for her leadership and stated she was sorry to <br />hear about the passing of her mother. She thanked her co-Councilmembers for being an <br />outstanding group of individuals. She stated she appreciated the friendship she had with each <br />one of them. She thanked Steve Larson for being a mentor to her. She thanked Bob Benke for <br />leading the City into new developments through TIF districts. She thanked staff and the City’s <br />Commissioners for leading together. <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg thanked her mom and dad for teaching her that what you do and what <br />you say matters. She stated this was a really hard time and what we do matters. She thanked <br />the residents of New Brighton for putting their trust in her. Lastly, she thanked her family and <br />her husband for his tremendous support. She commented on the amount of time they allowed <br />her to give to the City. She welcomed Nasreen Fynewever to the City Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson thanked Councilmember Burg for serving with grace. She commended <br />Councilmember Burg for a job well done on behalf of the City of New Brighton.
