At present, authorizing outdoor <br />seating areas for interested restaurants is the pressing need the City is trying to address via this <br />ordinance. Staff commented further on the Ordinance and reported the Planning Commission <br />recommended approval. <br />Councilmember Dunsworth asked if the temporary application was separate from a permanent special use <br />permit. Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola reported these processes were <br />separate. He explained temporary permits could be reviewed by staff this week in order for businesses to be <br />operational by June 1st. <br /> <br />A roll call vote was taken. 5 Ayes, 0 Nays-Motion Carried <br /> <br />3. He commented further on the Resolution and <br />recommended approval from the Council. <br />Councilmember Dunsworth questioned if the City would be contacting restaurants personally regarding the <br />proposed changes. Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola reported the DCAD <br />team had reached out to every restaurant in the City to let them know these changes were coming and <br />described how to apply for the temporary use permit. <br />Mayor Johnson asked how the City defined a temporary structure. Assistant Director of Community Assets <br />and Development Gozola reviewed how the City defined a temporary structure, such as a tent. <br />Councilmember Allen inquired how the City would make the public aware of these code changes. Assistant <br />Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola explained Code was not changing as the provisions <br />come from City Code. <br />Councilmember Allen recommended staff refresh residents memory regarding this matter in the next <br />newsletter. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen thanked staff for their efforts on this Resolution in order to assist New Brighton <br />small businesses. <br />Councilmember Fynewever questioned if the City would be communicating with surrounding neighbors to <br />make them aware of any temporary changes that would occur at local restaurants.
