Councilmember Jacobsen suggested staff look into grants to assist covering the expense of a future staff <br />person. <br />Mayor Johnson reported the City Council would like to have the Public Safety Commission review the use of <br />force policy and that the Public Safety Commission’s agendas be widely publicized to inform residents of the <br />discussion. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen recommended PREC also widely publicize their agendas and that the inclusivity <br />efforts of the Parks and Recreation Department be addressed at the August meeting. <br />Councilmember Allen suggested the City consider holding a conversation with the schools regarding their <br />experiences and views. <br />Mayor Johnson agreed this would be a valuable conversation. <br />Councilmember Fynewever questioned how the July 7th community conversation would be held. Massopust <br />reported this would be a Zoom meeting and the entire community would be invited to attend in order to <br />provide the City Council with feedback. He stated an advertisement for the meeting would be pushed to the <br />public through the normal social media channels. <br />Mayor Johnson asked who would be leading the conversation for this meeting. Massopust stated he <br />envisioned the community leading the comments and discussion at this meeting. <br />Councilmember Allen explained the Council saw the benefit of having a wholistic approach to inclusivity. He <br />encouraged staff to invite all City Commissioners to join the community conversation on July 7th. <br />Councilmember Fynewever suggested several guiding questions be considered and placed on the <br />advertisement for the community conversation. She believed this would be beneficial to assist with guiding the <br />conversation. <br />Councilmember Dunsworth agreed with this recommendation and suggested expectations of participations also <br />be laid out for the community conversation. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen stated New Brighton had a great community. He thanked staff for providing <br />tremendous services to New Brighton residents and for being willing to consider how to make things better. <br />Mayor Johnson thanked the Council for their input and stated she looked forward to attending the community <br />conversation on July 7th. <br />Worksession adjourned at 7:05 pm <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Terri Spangrud <br />City Clerk
