<br /> <br />V. Report from Council Liaison <br />Mayor Johnson provided the EDC with an update from the City Council. She invited the <br />public to visit the City’s farmer’s market and encouraged resident to wear masks. She <br />thanked the EDC for their recommendation regarding the CARES Act funding. She <br />explained $300,000 of CARES Act dollars would be used to assist small busin ess owners <br />and an additional $300,000 would be made available to assist with rental and housing <br />grants. She discussed the work that had being completed at Midtown Village and <br />commented on the new businesses that were returning to the Old Highway 8 corridor. <br />VI. Business Items <br />A. Comprehensive Parks Plan <br />Gozola discussed the Comprehensive Parks Plan with the EDC. He stated the original <br />plan dated back to 2006. He reported as part of the recent Comprehensive Plan <br />updates, the City Council recommended the Parks Plan also be updated. <br />Parks and Recreation Director Fink reviewed the Comprehensive Parks Plan with the <br />Commission. She reported staff began working on this plan in December of 2018. She <br />commented on the data collection that occurred over the past year online and <br />through numerous community engagement events. She reviewed the final approval <br />timeline for the plan noting this document would be added to the City’s 2040 <br />Comprehensive Plan. She indicated the plan was available on the City’s website for <br />public comment. She provided further comment on the goals, values and benefits of <br />the new Comprehensive Park Plan. The trail and building assessments were reviewed <br />with the Commission and it was noted 91% of all residents in the community live <br />within a 10 minute walk of a City park. Proposed renovations to the Community <br />Center, Hansen Park and other neighborhood parks was detailed by staff. She then <br />commented on teen, adult and senior programming goals. <br />Mayor Johnson commented on how the City was working to improve its parks while <br />developing them to meet changing trends and demographics. She indicated the City <br />was working to become a destination place. <br />Discussion included: <br /> How the City defines intergenerational play. <br /> Staff discussed the timelines for proposed park improvements. <br /> The new buildings being planned for Hansen Park and Freedom Park and how <br />these buildings would improve community programming. <br /> Maintenance proposed for the Community Center was discussed. <br /> The Commission was surprised by the survey results and commended the City for <br />having wonderful parks. <br /> The number of people served by the Parks system each year was reviewed.
