The Commission commended staff for their tremendous efforts on the
Comprehensive Parks Plan.
B. Status Update on Gateways and Monument Signs
Gozola reported almost one year ago, staff led the EDC through a review of all existing entry
signs throughout the community, and listed to feedback on where signage was important and
ideas on what signage is needed. The onset of COVID derailed initiatives like this for the time
being, but completion of the Parks Master Plan and the possible branding being done in those
facilities makes this a good opportunity to revisit the ideas generated last October to ensure
we are ready to go when time and circumstances allow. Staff commented further on the input
received from the EDC previously and requested comments or questions.
Mayor Johnson stated signs are important to the community and explained the City had to be
cautious and careful in utilizing its brand. She wanted to see the City staying true to its brand
while also acknowledging the history of the community.
C. COVID-19 Response: Business Assistance Program Update
Gozola reported the business relief program recommended by the EDC on August 5th was
recently funded and approved by the City Council on August 25 th. Staff is presently working
with legal Counsel on the final agreements with MCCD (Open To Business), and Open To
Business is working on the on-line platform in hopes of an early September launch of the
program. Staff discussed the eligibility requirements for the program and noted the grants
would be awarded in a range of $1,500 to $10,000.
VII.
