(cont.) The most up-to-date plan sets are attached for your information.
Comments for inclusion in the Planning Commission report will be
accepted up to Feb 13th.

New Brighton
Elementary
Updates:
At the January 22nd Council meeting, City Manager Lotter reviewed with
the public the extensive process the City used to draft the new
comprehensive plan (timeline attached).
Approval of the conditional rezoning by the City Council on January 22nd
also included approval of term sheets with the developers.
The term sheets provide the developers with legal access to the site to
complete surveying and other activities necessary to put an application
together. Additionally, the term sheets spell out a minimum level of
investment they agree to make as part of future improvements:
Affordable senior ($50M), Affordable Family ($40M), and Townhomes
($7.8M). All told, the MINIMUM investment in this roughly 12 acre site will
be nearly $100M.
City acquisition of 581 Old Highway 8 should be completed within the very
near future (possibly complete by the time of the EDC meeting).
The City’s email distribution list to keep interested residents up-to-speed
with on-going New Brighton Elementary happenings has been very
successful. As of 1/25/19, there were 34 households or business owners
on the list. Most have not provided direct feedback by email, but of those
who have, six (6) people on the list sent emails in support of the
development (mainly interested in either affordable units or senior units),
and four (4) people sent emails opposed to the development (mainly
concerned about traffic, crime, impact to the neighborhood, etc). If the
commission would like to receive these updates, please let staff know.
The City is currently pursuing grant dollars to cover the demolition of the
school building. Awards for the grant are expected to be announced in
April.
Information on the new TIF district will be shared with the EDC as it
becomes available in the future.

________________________
Ben Gozola, AICP
Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development
