<br /> <br />Candace Amberg, WSB, reviewed the final draft of the Parks Comprehensive Plan with the <br />Commission. She discussed the planning process that was followed for the plan, the public <br />review process and how data was collected for the City. The adjacent jurisdiction review <br />process was described, along with the park’s assessment rankings. The correlation between <br />the future park plans and funding options was discu ssed. An overview of the plan was <br />discussed further and staff requested comments or questions. <br /> <br />Discussion included: <br /> The process that would be followed by the Met Council to approve the Parks <br />Comprehensive Plan. It was noted that once approved, this plan would be an <br />Appendix to the City’s Comprehensive Plan. <br /> Funding sources and grant opportunities for the parks plan was discussed. <br /> The Commission appreciated the GIS story map within the plan. <br /> Staff commented on the feedback the City had received from the public regarding <br />the plan. <br /> The timeline for the parks projects was reviewed with the Commission. <br /> The trail connections that would be made in the community were discussed. <br /> Staff commented on the future for the Community Civic Center. <br /> The importance of the City having this plan in place was discussed for future bonding <br />and funding opportunities. <br /> The Commission thanked staff and WSB for their efforts on the Parks <br />Comprehensive Plan and for the strong vision this document would provide the City. <br /> <br />Motion by Bank, seconded by Johnson to recommend the City Council approve and submit the <br />final draft of the Parks Comprehensive Plan to the Metropolitan Council. A roll call vote was <br />taken. Motion carried 9-0. <br /> <br />VI. Announcements <br /> <br />A. City Council Report – Council Member Emily Dunsworth <br /> <br />There was nothing to report at this time. <br /> <br />B. PREC Chair Updates – Pam Axberg <br /> <br />Chair Axberg stated July was Park and Rec Month. She appreciated how many people were <br />using New Brighton parks this summer. <br /> <br />C. Department Happenings and Upcoming Events – City Staff <br /> <br />Director Fink stated the City Council and staff held a budget work session meeting on <br />Tuesday, August 4th. She explained staff would be refining the budget based on the <br />discussion at this meeting. She noted a preliminary levy would be set by the Council in <br />September. She indicated a Race & Equity Director was being considered for 2021. She <br />discussed the summer care program that was offered by the City. She noted the fitness <br />center has reopened for limited services. She reported the City set a record at the golf
