Paetznick, Director of Public Safety <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this report Comments attached <br />Recommendation: Recognize Police Sergeant Terry Nelson for his 30 years of law enforcement <br />service to the City of New Brighton. <br />Legislative History: Per Section 33.3 of the Employee Policy Handbook approved by the City Council <br />on May 14, 2019, New Brighton employees are recognized at the time of their <br />retirement for 20 years & above of service with a plaque or other award. <br />Financial Impact: Public Safety will experience some personnel savings in the 2021 budget while a <br />hiring process is conducted to backfill the organizational vacancy created by this <br />retirement. <br />Explanation: Terry Nelson began his career with the City of New Brighton as a police officer <br />on August 23, 1990. During his 30 years of service to the community, Terry <br />served his entire career in the patrol section, first as a police officer and for the <br />last 20 years as a supervisor. Terry served as a Field Training Officer (FTO) for <br />16 recruits, was the agency's lead firearms instructor for 25 years, and was the <br />department's traffic safety coordinator for 19 years. He received numerous <br />awards and recognitions during his career, including the 1992 Police Officer of <br />the Year, 2018 Traffic Safety Officer of the Year, six lifesaving awards, seven <br />letters of commendation, and three letters of recognition. Terry retired at the <br />end of 2020, working his final patrol shift on New Year's Eve, December 31St <br />Anthony S. Paetznick <br />Director of Public Safety <br />
