Staff <br />reviewed the new sidewalk and tennis courts that would be installed at Hidden Oaks Park and <br />Silver Oaks Park. <br />Discussion included: <br />The play areas within the Midtown Village were discussed. <br />The Commission thanked staff for the thorough review of the projects that would be <br />completed in 2020. <br />B.Election of a Chair and Vice Chair <br />Director Fink requested the Commission elect a Chair and Vice Chair to serve through April <br />of 2021. <br />Chair Axberg called for nominations for Chair and Vice Chair of the Commission. <br />Motion by McEathron, seconded by Santi to elect Pam Axberg Chair of the Parks and <br />Recreation Commission. Motion carried 9-0. <br />Motion by McEathron, seconded by Santi to elect Matt Johnson Vice Chair of the Parks and <br />Recreation Commission. Motion carried 9-0. <br />VI.Announcements <br />A.City Council Report – Council Member Emily Dunsworth <br />Councilmember Dunsworth provided the Commission with an update from the City Council. <br />She welcomed the Pauline Alfors and Gary Bank to the Commission. She reported the <br />farmers market was held this evening from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and would continue every <br />Wednesday at the Community Center through the summer. She explained New Brighton has <br />193 reported cases, which was the highest number in Ramsey County. She stated all <br />COVID-19 data was available on Ramsey County’s website. She noted the majority of these <br />cases were in the City’s congregate care facilities. She indicated the City has approved a <br />temporary permit process to allow local restaurants to reopen with outdoor seating. She <br />congratulated all of the high school seniors who were graduating from Irondale and St. <br />Anthony. <br />B.PREC Chair Updates – Pam Axberg <br />Chair Axberg commented on the Parks Strategic Plan noting the City was working to address <br />inclusion and equity within this park plan. <br />C.Department Happenings and Upcoming Events – City Staff <br />Director Fink encouraged the Commission to view Director Paetznick’s message to the <br />community. She stated he made a powerful statement. She discussed how COVID-19 was <br />continuing to impact the community. She reported the Community Center remains closed. <br />She anticipated the Community Center would reopen in August or September. She discussed <br />the number of children that were signed up for the summer Ed-ventures Program. She
