The school plans to add a new auditorium to the south side of the building. The new auditorium will <br />address a growing student population as well as provide the space and technology integral to a <br />contemporary high school auditorium. The new auditorium will provide a total of 642 seats. Brick <br />and precast that matches the existing school building will be incorporated into the new exterior of <br />the auditorium. Exterior metal panels and accent lighting designs draws from the history of New <br />Brighton and the iron mill that spurred the development of the area. <br />Additionally, two classroom additions are proposed. The first classroom addition is located on the <br />west side of the existing building and the second addition will occupy a portion of the existing <br />courtyard. The main office addition will be relocated on the south side of the main gym to <br />accommodate the new auditorium as well as provide a new secured entry vestibule. The additions <br />draws from the design and materials of the existing building while bringing in more natural light <br />and supporting flexible educational environments. <br />Finally, the scope of work includes major renovations to portions of the interior of the existing <br />building. The primary purpose of the renovations is to alleviate congestion within the hallway <br />intersections and repurpose existing spaces to better facilitate student needs. The expansion of the <br />hallway intersections will displace classrooms, which will be relocated within the existing building. <br />With a new pool planned for Edgewood Middle School, the existing high school pool will be <br />converted into a new fitness room. The existing auditorium will be reconfigured into a new <br />multipurpose room. The main lobby will be expanded into a new commons and auditorium lobby <br />with support spaces for student and community use. <br />All associated site reconfigurations due to building additions are included in the drawing portion of <br />the submittal. Thank you for your consideration! <br /> <br /> <br />Site Review <br />In General:  Per Zoning Code Section 8-010, new building construction (other than double and <br />single family residences) shall be referred to the City Council for review. Review <br />of this SUP amendment will address this requirement, and the following is an <br />overview of important findings in relation to code requirements. <br /> <br />Proposed <br />Additions: <br /> Proposed areas of addition (blue) and parking lot changes (yellow) are shown on <br />the following page.
