SUP Review: Big Blue Box & A Tree Service
Planning Commission Report; 6-16-20

Page 5
(cont.)

In the proposed storage area will be setting erosion/runoff control logs down the length of the bank
near the creek along with existing concrete jersey barriers as well for the larger logs to be set
against.
We propose to set additional landscaping to the west to screen most of the container storage and an
8’ tall screening fence with a gate in order to screen all materials from the public’s view. We do not
sell anything on site, all material are resold and delivered to clients.

ABOUT BIG BLUE BOX
Big Blue Box is proposing to rent exterior yard space from A Tree service. They are a moving
storage container & cargo container business that rents, sells and stores high quality, customizable,
new and used portable storage containers.
Big Blue Box has been in business in New Brighton since June 2001. This business is growing and
needs to expand their storage area of these containers to the A Tree Services property to the west of
their existing facility.
The proposed property A Tree Service would like to rent to Big Blue Box for storing containers and
chassis is located in an existing industrial zoned property in the I-2 district. The location and type of
this proposed use is essential for the growth of both companies.
There are 3 items that we are proposing:
1. The existing property to be left as is being that it works for this type of use and does not require
any remodeling or improvements. Except for adding a privacy fence to hide all wood materials
from the public view, additional landscaping on the west of the property.
2. A Tree Service wood material storage in the rear lot not visible to the public.
3. Storage of containers and chassis trailers. The containers would be stacked at maximum 2 high.
Each container is 8’-6” tall, this would bring them to approximately 17’ tall. These containers
are designed to be stack and will not cause any harm to the property or personal. Being that
they will be stored in an industrial zone this would not affect neighboring properties. This is an
ideal location for this use.

Site Review
In General: No new buildings are proposed, so a formal site plan review is not required.
However, examining the existing characteristics of the site is important to
understand what (if any) conditions might be needed for the new uses should the
SUP be approved.
