From:Cynthia Graves
To:Benjamin Gozola
Subject:Re: comments for Public Hearing: Planning Commission Meeting Aug 18, 2020
Date:Monday, August 17, 2020 5:26:45 PM
Ben Gozola,
I am opposed to the sign variances that are being requested at 388 Cleveland Ave SW. I live 4
houses east of the business there and a bigger and taller sign would be visible from my house
and yard. I don't believe a tall electronic dynamic display is compatible with the character of
our residential neighborhood. It would be like replacing the noise pollution that the wall will
help abate, with light pollution. I am also concerned that it could create wireless
interference. Thirdly, it looks like another variance would be necessary for that particular
sign. The specifications listed on the Daktronics.com site for a Galaxy GS6 15.85 mm full color
message display list a maximum brightness of 12,000 nits. The New Brighton Zoning
Code/Chapter 9 signs/Article 3/Section 9-070/Number 5D states that "In no instance shall the
sign have the mechanical capabilities to exceed 7000 nits." The code also states that the sign
must have the mechanical capabilities to control luminance during the day and night at certain
levels listed in 5C and I wonder if this has been established. Thank you for noting my
concerns.
Cynthia Graves
2034 Stowe Ave
Please see: Daktronics.com ->menu ->view all products ->view a complete A to Z product
listing ->message displays ->Galaxy GS6 15.85 mm full-color -> specifications ->maximum
brightness -> 12,000 nits
2034 Stowe Avenue
