Reports and Updates <br /> <br />A. Allina Health – Dave Matteson <br /> <br />Dave Mattson stated on November 16, 2020 Allina began EMS operations in River Falls, <br />Wisconsin. He discussed how call volumes surged in the North Metro in November and how <br />strike teams came in to assist with the workload. He commented on how staffing has been a <br />challenge with EMT’s out on 10 to 14 day quarantines. He discussed the changes that had <br />been made in Allina supervisor positions. He reviewed the number of COVID positive <br />patients within Allina hospitals and reported the number was on the decline. He explained <br />Allina EMS workers would be receiving COVID vaccines next week. <br /> <br />Mr. Mattson commented on a recent news special that covered the use of Ketamine. He <br />reported Allina has put a new protocol in place for Ketamine to ensure proper dosage <br />amounts are dispensed. Further discussion ensued regarding the use of Ketamine and the 60 <br />Minutes report. <br /> <br />B. Public Safety Update – Director Paetznick <br /> <br />Director Paetznick discussed the COVID stats from Ramsey County and the City of St. Paul. <br />He reported the City was over the November peak and active cases were on the decline. He <br />encouraged residents to continue to wear masks, stay distanced and stay home if they are <br />sick. He noted vaccines were on their way for Tier 1 employees and he hoped his first <br />responders would soon follow. He discussed the number of COVID cases that have occurred <br />within the Public Safety Department over the past nine months. He thanked his staff <br />members for staying distanced and for wearing PPE. <br /> <br />Director Paetznick proudly reported New Brighton received third place for their virtual <br />National Night Out efforts. He thanked all New Brighton residents that participated in this <br />event amidst a global pandemic. <br /> <br />Director Paetznick reported the department was in the process of serving 21 families <br />representing 66 children in the community through Santa Cop. He thanked all who had made <br />generous donations to the Public Safety Department. <br /> <br />Director Paetznick encouraged residents to be safe when gathering this holiday season. He <br />noted November and December were the highest months for fires. He commented on the <br />departments staffing changes and explained the Public Safety Department was in the process <br />of hiring at this time.
