Explanation:
With the Midtown Village planned improvements (just north of the Public Works site), changes
are being considered for the remaining space within the Public Works yard. This quote specifically
addresses the need for additional equipment and vehicle storage. The remodeled warm storage
building will also create a space where all snow plowing apparatus can be kept under one roof.
Kodet has prepared Construction Documents for the Existing Water Treatment Plant – Interior
Demo‐Renovation. This Water Treatment Plant used to have Carbon Vessels to treat TCAAP
contaminants. Rather than removing the building Public Works transitioned it into a usable facility
over the years. The last step in truly making this a functional building is to remove additional
concrete (backwash pit) and a mezzanine. Once removed this area will be replaced with concrete
to match the existing concrete slab. A new garage door will be added and it will become a drive‐
thru facility. See the attached sketch. Base bids have been received from 10 contractors, along
with Bid Alternates. The low bidder, TMG Construction Inc., has not done work for the City in
the recent past, but our architect indicated that they are qualified and capable of performing work
of this kind and magnitude.
The alternate painting price from the General Contractor was higher than other bids received.
Staff solicited paint quotes as a separate contract. Slack Pai nting provided the low quote ($12,400
below the general contractor bid) and Slack has done quality work on behalf of the City in the
past.
Costs and Funding:
This project, if approved, will be funded from the PW Non‐fleet fund. A future project will include
a storage mezzanine under a separate contract.
________________________________________
Craig Schlichting, P.E.
Director of Community Assets and Development
Attachments:
•Resolution
•Colored Rendering
