REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Consider Ordinance 875: An ordinance to adopt a prohibition of on-street
parking of large vehicles such as semi-trucks and semi-trailers
DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL:
CITY MANAGER’S APPROVAL:
No comments to supplement this report ___ Comments attached ___
15.99 Deadline: n/a
Recommendation: The Public Safety Commission, Planning Commission, and Staff recommend
Approval of Ordinance 875
Legislative History: The issue of on-street parking of large vehicles comes up continually on a
month-to-month basis
Financial Impact: None.
Summary: Rights-of-way are intended for many purposes including but not limited to
transportation needs (i.e. roads, sidewalks, & trails), utilities, snow storage,
boulevard plantings, etc. ROWs are not meant to be utilized as overflow
parking for large vehicle operators, but this has unfortunately become a
problem in recent years. Rather than signing all problem areas as “no
parking,” adopting a prohibition on large vehicle parking will address the
issue city-wide. The proposed prohibition is not uncommon in urban areas
like New Brighton, and will enhance the character within some of our
industrial areas which have become over-run at times with on-street parking
of large vehicles.
________________________
Ben Gozola, AICP
Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development
Attachments: Staff Report
Ord 875
Report Number: 5
Agenda Section: IX
Report Date: 5/20/20
Council Meeting Date: 5/26/20
