CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT <br /> SCHOLARSHIP POLICY <br /> <br />Purpose Statement <br />The purpose of the City of New Brighton’s scholarship fund is to provide access to the City’s <br />recreation and leisure services to those residents who may need financial assistance. <br /> <br />Qualifications <br />1. Recipients must be a New Brighton resident. In the case of a minor, the requesting <br />parent or legal guardian must be a New Brighton resident. (The minor’s permanent <br />address and telephone number should be used for registration purposes, even if it is not <br />a New Brighton address.) <br />2. Individuals or families requesting financial assistance must provide documentation <br />showing they qualify according to the following guidelines. (Gross Wage). These <br />guidelines are the same as the free and reduced lunch guidelines used by the School <br />District. Recipients will receive a scholarship equal to 50% of the resident program fee. <br />2. Each recipient can receive a maximum of $100 in scholarships annually or a maximum <br />of $250 per family annually. Regular calendar year Jan. – Dec. <br />3. All recreation and leisure services provided by the City of New Brighton are eligible <br />except the following: <br />o Adult team sports <br />o Extended travel/trips <br />o Birthday parties <br />o Contracted programs. All scholarship requests should be referred to the <br />contracting agency <br />o Any programs with an already reduced rate i.e. group priced programs, etc. <br />o Any activity with a daily fee <br />o Facility rentals, i.e. pool, gym <br />o Forestry services <br />o Memberships to the NBCC (fitness classes are eligible) <br />o Ed-Ventures <br />o Private instructional programs (personal training, private swim lessons, private <br />soccer lessons, private tennis lessons) <br />o Others as determined by the Director of Parks & Recreation
