12 <br />clear the roadways. <br /> <br />On March 31, some residents of Oak Grove reported receiving threatening text messages <br />that were a scam to get money from the victims. Based on the suspect’s apparent <br />targeting of the Hispanic population in that community, PSO Claudia Valdez authored an <br />agency Facebook post in Spanish (a first for the department) to warn of this scam. The <br />information was also shared with Public Safety’s Faith Community Partner Pastor Ana <br />Becerra of Cristo Rey, the Latino congregation of Christ the King Church and with the <br />Mounds View Schools Hispanic Integration & Equity Liaison Angel Toro to <br />communicate and educate about this issue. <br /> <br />VI. BIAS CRIME REPORTS <br /> <br /> This section will contain any information regarding bias and/or hate crimes in the City of <br />New Brighton. <br /> <br />There were no bias crime reports this month. <br /> <br />VII. VOLUNTEER SERVICES <br /> <br />This section contains information on our various volunteer organizations related to Public <br />Safety. This includes the activities of the Public Safety Commission, Police Reserves, <br />Police Explorers, and Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS). <br /> <br />Activity for the month includes the following: <br /> <br />The Reserve unit worked a total of 361 hours for the month of March. We also have a <br />group of Reserves attending Emergency Medical Responder training. <br /> <br />VIII. HOMELAND SECURITY AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT <br /> <br />This section will review ongoing activities for homeland security and emergency <br />management. This includes the activities of the New Brighton Community Emergency <br />Response Teams (CERT). <br /> <br />On March 13, Deputy Director Hamdorf attended the quarterly meeting of the Ramsey <br />County Emergency Management Directors. The group discussed springtime flooding <br />forecasts and tracking of any extraordinary municipal costs related to water-related <br />responses by public safety and public works in case there is an opportunity to obtain <br />reimbursement for eligible expenses in the event of a county disaster declaration. <br /> <br /> <br />IX. TRAINING <br /> <br />This section will review the training activities of our Public Safety personnel for the <br />month. <br />
