2 <br />I. INCIDENT RESPONSE INFORMATION <br /> <br />The following information contains summaries of significant police and fire related <br />incidents during the month. <br /> <br />Saint John the Baptist reported that a male was found searching desk drawers in their <br />office on Tuesday evening, April 2 around 7 pm, and when confronted by staff, he fled <br />the building and left in a vehicle. Investigation determined that the suspect had been <br />scheduled to meet with a group at the church about obtaining rent assistance using a <br />fraudulent name and story. Officers were able to identify the suspect via photo line-up. <br />Members of New Brighton’s Police-Faith Community Partnership were notified of the <br />incident in case the suspect surfaced at any other local churches with a similar financial <br />request. <br /> <br />Officers responding to a reported physical domestic in an apartment building in the 200 <br />block of Old Highway 8 SW on Tuesday, April 2 around 8 pm found that a female victim <br />had been choked by her husband who had since fled the scene. She declined medical <br />treatment. The suspect was contacted via phone and refused an interview but turned <br />himself in at the Public Safety Center to officers. He was booked at the Ramsey County <br />Jail for Felony Domestic Assault by Strangulation. <br /> <br />A victim had her laptop stolen at a Minneapolis coffee shop on Monday and reported it to <br />U of M Police. She later tracked the device to an address in New Brighton. On Tuesday, <br />April 2 around 9 pm, officers went to a residence in the 2700 block of 14th Street NW <br />and recovered the stolen Mac Book. The resident advised that he had purchased the <br />laptop for $250 from an unknown female via the “Let-Go” app and that he had met her in <br />the parking lot of Rosedale Mall to complete the transaction. <br /> <br />Officers responded to a residence on Friday, April 5 after a child called 911 reporting that <br />their parent was drinking and should not be. They spoke with the 10-year-old who stated <br />that their parent was on medication and is restricted from consuming alcohol. Officers <br />verified the story with the parent who did not appear impaired and then waited for <br />another family member to arrive and stay at the residence with the parent and child. <br /> <br />On Saturday, April 6, Officer Kostohryz was running stationary radar enforcement in the <br />2900 block of Innsbruck Drive. Officer Kostohryz observed a motorcycle traveling at <br />high rate of speed, the driver was not wearing a helmet and had no eyewear. A traffic <br />stop was attempted but the driver fled at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle had no <br />registration visible and the pursuit was terminated immediately due to the danger posed <br />to the public. <br /> <br />On April 7, New Brighton squads assisted the State Patrol at an accident with injuries. <br /> <br />On Monday afternoon, April 8, management of Chateau Royale Apartments became <br />suspicious of an odor coming from one of the units and found the 65-year-old resident <br />deceased in the bathtub. The tenant was also past-due on rent. There were no obvious <br />signs of trauma or foul play. A detective responded to investigate and the Ramsey <br />County Medical Examiner recovered the body. <br />
