14
X. OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE

This section will review the ongoing administrative issues and meetings during the
month. This includes meetings, policy issues, ordinance changes, and personnel issues.
And, this also includes meetings of a county wide, regional, and/or statewide basis on
public safety related issues.

New Brighton Detective Mike Lochen assisted Fridley Public Safety on Tuesday, May 7,
by serving as an interview panelist for their investigator selection process.

On Thursday, May 9, Deputy Director Hamdorf attended the monthly meeting of I-35W
North MnPASS MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) Task Force. MnDOT was unaware that
Silver Lake Road was currently closed due to the local construction project in St.
Anthony. A request was also submitted to change the signage for the additional lane
constructed on northbound Long Lake Road at I-694 as it requires drivers to turn left
although the first indicator sign states it is a straight-through only lane.

Audit Partner Matt Mayer from Bergan KDV met with the Board of Directors for the Fire
Relief Association on Tuesday evening, May 14, to review the draft financial statements
for the 2018 audit. As of December 31, 2018, the pension is about 150% funded.

Public Safety received a threefold increase in the number of applications by the May 18th
deadline for its open police officer position, compared to the last hiring process which
was just conducted in December 2018, for the budgeted 30th sworn officer; 47 now
versus only 15 then. The current vacancy is the result of Officer Benjamin DeBoer’s
resignation in early March. Credit to the Administration team of Devin Massopust,
Sandra Daniloff, and Lisa Carlton for their creativity and outreach with marketing this
open police officer position.

The Memorial Day holiday weekend marked the official start of Public Safety’s
summertime, seasonal water safety program that staffs a civilian boat monitor on Long
Lake to proactively control trailer parking at the public boat launch and also address the
behavior of boaters and other watercraft operators on Long Lake. The position is
financially supported by donations from the residents of the Long Lake Improvement
Association.

XI. RECOGNITION, NEWS AND INFORMATION

This section will include “good news” information about our public safety personnel.
This will include formal and informal recognition of the department and/or its personnel
on or off duty.

The Suburban Ramsey County Law Enforcement Memorial service was held on
Thursday, May 16. The service was held at 11 am at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church,
8211 Red Oak Drive, Mounds View.
