5 <br />Sergeant Sypniewski stopped a vehicle for speeding on 16th Avenue SW (42 in a 30 mph <br />zone) around 8 pm on Sunday, May 26, and found that the 19-year old female driver had <br />two active misdemeanor warrants for her arrest after initially providing a false name as <br />she only has a MN ID card and not a driver’s license nor valid insurance for the vehicle. <br />Her 41-year old mother, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was found to have an active <br />felony drug warrant for her arrest. Both were arrested and booked at the Ramsey County <br />Jail. <br /> <br />Around 11 pm on Monday, May 27, officers responded to the County Road E apartments <br />on reports of one gunshot heard and a disturbance coming from inside an unknown unit. <br />With assistance from St. Anthony PD, officers located the persons involved and <br />determined that an assault between two males had occurred in the apartment, with the <br />female tenant attempting to intervene. A male victim who was apparently high on <br />ecstasy claimed to first have been shot in the groin and then in the ear, but no gunshot <br />injuries were located. He was transported to HCMC. The male suspect who had <br />brandished a handgun but allegedly never fired a round from it, had fled the scene prior <br />to officers arrival. <br /> <br />Around 4:40 am on Tuesday, May 28, a female victim at Lakeview Apartments reported <br />that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend and that he then fled in a vehicle from the <br />scene. In an attempt to scare off her attacker during the assault, she had pulled the fire <br />alarm for the building. During the day, the suspect’s vehicle returned to the parking lot <br />but he was not found. Later that evening, around 7 pm, officers continued their search <br />for the suspect and found him hiding underneath some brush near the railroad bridge over <br />I-694. He was taken into custody without incident and booked at the Ramsey County Jail <br />for domestic assault by strangulation. <br /> <br />Shortly before 1 am, on Wednesday, May 29, New Brighton officers received a driving <br />complaint about a vehicle traveling on Silver Lake Road at a high rate of speed, running a <br />red light, and having heavy front-end damage, including a missing tire. As officers were <br />checking the area, they were advised by Anoka County dispatch that the vehicle was <br />wanted in connection with a stabbing in the City of Fridley. The vehicle was located <br />unoccupied in the parking lot of the Brighton Veterinary Clinic on Mississippi Street, <br />with an apparent arson fire in the front driver’s compartment. Officers and firefighters <br />extinguished the flames. A police canine from Mounds View searched the area for the <br />occupants but no suspects were located. Fridley Police took custody of the vehicle for <br />crime scene processing. <br /> <br />On May 31, New Brighton officers were dispatched to New Brighton Health and Rehab <br />on a report of two residents fighting. The investigation revealed one elderly resident hit <br />another resident with his cane multiple times. <br /> <br />On May 31, the police division was dispatched to a possible injury accident that was <br />called in by On-Star. Officers arrived on scene and located the vehicle off the road. The <br />vehicle was lodged between another fence, a trailer and some other items. The driver <br />reported being injured and was unable to get out of the vehicle. New Brighton Fire was <br />requested to extricate the driver. They successfully supported the vehicle and cut the roof <br />off to gain access to the driver. The driver was then transported to the hospital by Allina <br />paramedics for evaluation.
