9 <br />and agreed to take a breath test which revealed a BAC of .17. Since the driver had a <br />DWI within the past 10 years and his BAC was over .16, he was booked for a 2nd degree <br />DWI. <br /> <br />On August 22, the night shift crew made 5 traffic arrests which included a traffic arrest <br />for 4th degree DWI. <br /> <br />On August 23, Officer Craig stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver showed signs of <br />impairment and failed field sobriety tests. The driver was placed under arrest and agreed <br />to take the breath test which revealed a BAC of .12. The driver was booked for 4th <br />degree DWI. <br /> <br />On August 24, New Brighton squads responded on a party who hit a power pole. The <br />driver stated he blacked out while traveling E/B on 8th St NW. The driver struck the <br />power line which knocked it to the ground. The driver admitted to drinking and failed <br />field sobriety tests. The driver also had high blood sugar. The driver was arrested for <br />DWI and agreed to take a breath test. The test revealed a BAC of .14. The driver was <br />able to take their insulin prior to being booked at LEC. Xcel Energy responded and took <br />care of the power lines. <br /> <br />On August 24, Officer Amberg stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was under the <br />influence of a controlled substance. The driver provided a false name to Officer Amberg. <br />The investigation revealed the driver had an outstanding Felony DOC Warrant for a <br />release violation, and two outstanding warrants out of HCSO for Felony Flee and <br />Misdemeanor DAR. The driver refused field sobriety tests. The driver was placed under <br />arrest for suspected DWI and False Information to Police. An inventory search of the <br />vehicle revealed .52 grams of methamphetamine. A search warrant was written and <br />obtained. The driver arrested for the warrants, DWI and Possession of meth. <br /> <br /> On August 25, officers working a DWI enforcement event arrested two parties for DWI. <br />One of the drivers was arrested and booked for a 4th degree DWI (BAC of .11) and the <br />other was arrested and booked for a 2nd degree DWI (BAC of .22). <br /> <br />On August 26, Officer Pyka sees a vehicle from an anonymous letter that alerted the PD <br />of a frequent party who is drinking and driving. Officer Amberg eventually stops it for a <br />traffic violation. The driver had strong odor of alcoholic beverages coming from his <br />breath and bloodshot watery eyes. The driver displayed lack of coordination and failed <br />field sobriety tests. The driver agreed to take a breath test which revealed a BAC of .17. <br />The driver was booked for 3rd degree DWI. Also on the same night as this shift, New <br />Brighton squads arrested 5 more drivers for misdemeanor driving violations and another <br />driver for 2nd degree DWI. <br /> <br />A revoked driver who was under the influence of alcohol failed to yield the right-of-way <br />on County Road D around 5 pm on August 29, causing a significant two-vehicle crash. <br />The suspect displayed signs of intoxication and provided a preliminary breath test of <br />.371. Due to possible injury, he was transported by Allina to Regions Hospital where a <br />search warrant was written and a blood sample obtained. The driver of the other vehicle <br />was evaluated by paramedics at the scene. The 60-year old suspect from New Brighton <br />also had an outstanding gross misdemeanor warrant for DWI.
