OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE

This section will review the ongoing administrative issues and meetings during the
month. This includes meetings, policy issues, ordinance changes, and personnel issues.
And, this includes meetings of a county wide, regional, and/or statewide basis on public
safety related issues.

On July 9, Deputy Director Olson met with Long Lake Residents about no wake
violations on the lake. The residents were provided with a key to the no wake sign to flip
it when the wake is not allowed. Although all waterways, including Long Lake, are
statutorily the responsibility of the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department and as it is a
County Park managed by Ramsey County, city staff continue to try and assist where
possible to address their concerns.

XI. The email stated:
“I don’t know if you remember me, but two years ago you met me at the lowest point in
my life in 2017. I wanted to say thank you to you and everyone else who helped me that
day - it could have ended a variety of different ways, and I’m glad I got a second chance
at life and got the help I needed! Life is worth it. Thank you for your service and
compassion to helping those in need. Please extend my thanks to the others that helped
that day, even though I know you do not work with New Brighton anymore. Thank you
so much for everything! I hope you’re well.”

Tom Hughes has served as our contracted municipal attorney for prosecution services
since January 1, 1979, but stated in a recent phone conversation, “There is a time for
everything.” With that said, Tom has announced his retirement effective at the end of his
current contract on December 31st this year. We are grateful for Tom’s many decades of
service to the City of New Brighton.
