<br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />Public Safety Commission <br />October 14, 2019 City Hall <br />Council Chambers 6:30 p.m. <br /> <br />I. Call to Order <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Vice Chair Wagner <br /> <br />II. Roll Call: <br />Members Present: Commissioners Robert Boyd, William Cook, Amina Ghouse, Tanya Kessler, <br />Stephanie Kitzhaber, Stephanie Malone, Karen Wagner, and Ache Wakai. <br /> <br />Members Absent: Commissioner Geoff Hollimon. <br /> <br />Also Present: Deputy Director Hamdorf, Councilmember Emily Dunsworth, and Dave Matteson <br />(Allina Health). <br /> <br />III. Approval of Agenda <br /> <br />Motion by Malone, seconded by Ghouse to approve the October 14, 2019 agenda as presented. <br />Motion carried 8-0. <br /> <br />IV. Approval of Minutes <br /> <br />Motion by Malone, seconded by Cook to approve the September 9, 2019 minutes as presented. <br />Motion carried 8-0. <br /> <br />V. Presentations and Public Hearings <br /> <br />A. Emergency Medical Services – Trevor Hamdorf, Deputy Director of Public Safety <br /> <br />Deputy Director Hamdorf provided the Commission with a presentation on emergency <br />medical services (EMS). He reported the Public Safety Department responds to a large <br />number of EMS calls every year. He commented on the process that is followed for all <br />emergency medical calls and how care is transferred to medical staff. He then described how <br />calls were routed through the Ramsey County Dispatch center. He reviewed the medical <br />protocols that were in place for the Public Safety Department while also commenting on the <br />partnership the City has with Allina. He discussed the services provided by New Brighton <br />EMS. He commented further on the mental health efforts within the community. He <br />demonstrated how a defibrillator is used and displayed all of the medical items Police <br />Officers in New Brighton have on hand. He then discussed the importance of the <br />partnerships the department had in place.
