December 8, 2020 Page 2 of 10 5 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried Commission Minutes Mayor Johnson received the following minutes on behalf of the City: • PREC Minutes from October 7, 2020. Special Order of Business 1. Proclamation Recognizing Dan O’Connell’s years of service upon his retirement. Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Dunsworth to accept the Proclamation recognizing Dan O’Connell for his years of service to the City of New Brighton. A roll call vote was taken. 5 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried Mayor Johnson read a proclamation in full for the record recognizing Dan O’Connell for his 18 years of dedicated service to the City of New Brighton. She wished Mr. O’Connell all the best in his retirement. Community Assets and Development Director Schlichting stated the City typically brings retirees into the City for recognition but with COVID-19 this was not possible. He explained he would pass along this proclamation to Dan along with a sign from the City of New Brighton. 2. Accept 2019 Minnesota Recreation and Parks Association Award of Excellence in Sponsorship and Partnerships for the Beautiful Project – Tree of Life Mural Project. City Manager Massopust reported Parks and Recreation Director Fink would be presenting this item to the Council. Parks and Recreation Director Fink stated it was her pleasure to come before the Council stating Amy Peterson from the City of Maple Grove would be presenting the City of New Brighton with an award for the Tree of Life Mural. Amy Peterson, Minnesota Recreation and Parks Association Boardmember, discussed the history and purpose of the Minnesota Recreation and Parks Association. She then presented the City Council with a 2019 Award of Excellence in Sponsorship and Partnership for the Beautiful Project. She commented the City for their tremendous efforts on the Tree of Life Mural. Mayor Johnson stated she was very proud of the Beautiful Project and how the community came together to complete this mural. Councilmember Jacobsen thanked Parks and Recreation Director Fink for all that she has brought to the City of New Brighton. He explained the City could not have an outstanding product without having outstanding staff. Parks and Recreation Director Fink thanked Councilmember Jacobsen for his kind words and stated all of the projects that have been completed in the past year or two have been a group effort and she worked with talented people. 3. Proclamation Recognizing Councilmember Nasreen Fynewever for her service. Motion by Councilmember Dunsworth, seconded by Councilmember Allen to accept the Proclamation recognizing Nasreen Fynewever for her service to the City of New Brighton on the City Council.
