Discussion included: <br />• The definition of a suspicious vehicle was discussed. <br />• The Commission discussed how parking concerns should be managed around <br />apartment complexes that were adjacent to single-family homes. <br />• The Commission requested staff review the sight lines and if sidewalks were on the <br />street or if pedestrians/students were using the street. <br />• Mayor Johnson commented on the parking requirements within the Midtown Village <br />development and discussed how the developer had purchased more land from the City <br />to meet parking requirements. <br />• The Commission thanked Director Paetznick for the presentation on the City's <br />parking regulations and sign requests. <br />VI. Reports and Updates <br />A. Allina Health — Dave Matteson <br />Dave Mattson provided the Commission with an update on recent response calls. He noted <br />Allina responded to an apartment fire in December and also assisted with a home birth. He <br />described the multiple victim shooting event that occurred in Spring Lake Park. He <br />discussed how Allina managed the recent ice storm. He reviewed the just -in -time training <br />that Allina has been completing with its staff. He reported stating in June he would be <br />having an additional Medical Director by the name of Dr. Greg Jones that would be focused <br />on north metro operations. He commented on how to safely clear an intersection when an <br />ambulance was behind vehicles. <br />B. Public Safety Update — Director Paetznick <br />Director Paetznick reported VIPS would be hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive at <br />the Community Center on Wednesday, January 15th from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. He <br />discussed how the City was partnering with NYFS on mental health calls. He described in- <br />service sexual assault investigation training his officers attended last week with Ramsey <br />County. He thanked Allina for their great response to the recent apartment fire. He reported <br />the Public Safety Department took possession of its new utility truck in December. He <br />anticipated the ladder truck would be completed in the next couple months. He reported the <br />snow sculpture opened last weekend and the ice castle would be open on Friday, January <br />17th. <br />C. City Council Update —Valerie Johnson, Mayor <br />Mayor Johnson wished everyone a Happy New Year. She thanked the Bartz Brothers for <br />coming up with another great snow sculpture again this year. She thanked the neighbors for <br />being patient. She reported on Wednesday, January 15th the Transportation Committee and <br />Representative Connie Bernardy would be taking a tour through New Brighton, Fridley and <br />Blaine. She noted the whistle free zone would be discussed with the Committee members. <br />She commented on how the Real ID was adversely impacting the license bureau and noted <br />she would continue to advocate for this endeavor. She stated on Monday, January 27th there <br />would be a legislative hearing at the New Brighton Community Center on legalizing <br />marijuana. She indicated the hearing would be held at 5:30 p.m. She updated the <br />Commission on the Midtown Village development. She reported the City Council was in the <br />middle of the hiring process for the City Manager. She encouraged the six members that had <br />expiring terms to reapply if interested in continuing their service to the City. <br />
