Presentation on Prouosed Fire Truck Purchase — DeUuty Fire Chief Hamdorf
qft
Deputy Fire Chief Hamdorf gave a brief introduction on the proposed fire truck purchase which will
replace 1986 Engine 494. He reviewed the unique hazards that are present in New Brighton. Deputy
Fire Chief Hamdorf noted the City of New Brighton is an ISO Class 3 City; which is the highest rated
class in the state. The vast majority of Class 3 cities have full time fire suppression personnel.
I
Deputy Fire Chief Hamdorf gave a brief background on the current E494 engine compared with the
proposed E494. He also reviewed the operational gaps on the current E494 engine.
Deputy Fire Chief Hamdorf reviewed the HGAC Purchasing Process which is similar to the state bid
process but on a national scale. By using the HGAC process, you know what the truck will cost; with
sealed bids, you don't know the cost until you open the bids. The projected savings to use the HGAC
process is $37,979.
The next step of this process is to present this information to the Council at a Work Session.
Commissioner Boyd thanked Deputy FiraChief Hamdorf for his presentation. Commissioner Eichers
inquired what the lead time is for ordering a fire truck. Deputy Fire Chief Hamdorf reported it takes
330-360 days so truck replacements need to be planned well in advance.
Updates
A. Citizen Corps Council
No report.
