Department Reports
A. Human Rights
No human rights to report.
B. Allina Health
Ms. Renee Rosenberg, Allina Health, reported Allina Health is only about 1 % weeks away from posting
crews in Shoreview at their new base which will serve the east side of New Brighton and I-35. This
location also provides more much needed storage space for Allina Health.
Ms. Rosenberg spoke briefly about a recent ambulance crash in January in Hamlin on 694 where a rig
that was on the side of the road working on a patient was struck by another vehicle causing some critical
injuries to the Allina Health persons. 4L,
Ms. Rosenberg reported Allina Health will be participating in an upcoming Active Shooter training
exercise with Ramsey County.
Ms. Rosenberg noted Allina Health will be at the Council meeting on Tuesday for the presentation of
Life Saving Awards.
Ms. Rosenberg reported Allina operations had an 8% increase in call volume in 2014; this will lead to an
increase in staffing.
C. Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS)
No report. or
D. Public Safety/Homeland Security Update
Director Jacobson reported Life Saving Awards will be presented at tomorrow's Council meeting to
Officer DeDominces, 3 citizens, and 2 paramedics for a medical call which occurred at Hazelnut Park.
Even though this call was not in our City, Officer DeDominces heard the call and thought he would be
the first responder on scene; which he was.
Director Jacobson reported New Brighton has been awarded one of the grants for a DWI Officer.
Officer BJ DeBoer will be assigned to this role and the grant will cover all the personnel and equipment
costs. There were only 10 grants awarded in the State of Minnesota so we were very fortunate to have
been awarded this grant.
Council Liaison
A. Council Report
Council Member Paul Jacobsen attended this commission meeting in Council Member Burg's absence
and noted the following items:
➢ Council Member Jacobsen thanked the Public Safety Commission for their review of the 10th
Street Reconstruction and Crosswalk project.
