Department Reports
A. Human Rights
Director Paetznick noted the racial justice panel, sponsored by New Brighton League of Women
Voters, had a great turnout and great conversations. There were good questions and a respectful
dialog.
Director Paetznick and Mayor Johnson served as community evaluators for the 8th grade student
presentations on their human rights projects at Highview Middle School.
B. Allina Health
Ms. Renee Rosenberg reported Allina is back to normal operations after the nurse's strike. Allina is
going to increase their office space at the Mounds View location. The new ambulances will be out
soon. They will have "auto load" which will load the patients into the ambulance without lifting.
C. Volunteers in Public Safety (YIPS)
Director Paetznick noted VIPS helped with the blood drive that was held two weeks ago. VIPS will
once again help with SantaCop this year. Retired Officer McNeely worked with the VIPS to
coordinate a transition before her retirement. SantaCop this year will be scaled back but will
continue to help those in need.
D. Public Safety/Homeland Security Update
Director Paetznick noted the following items:
o In reviewing the crime data, numbers are trending up a little.
o Officer Troy Hyland resigned and went to Coon Rapids PD.
o We have a conditional job offer out to one of our Police Reserves.
o Director Paetznick confirmed that he has been made the permanent Director of Public Safety.
Officer Trevor Hamdorf is now the permanent Deputy Director.
o Another conditional job offer will be extended to the next person on our eligibility list.
Mayor Johnson commented we are so lucky to have these two gentlemen in our community.
Congratulations and she looks forward to working with the both of you.
Council Member Strub commented we are lucky to have Director Paetznick. He is out in the
community and involved. Congratulations!
Council Liaison
A. Council Report
Council Member Brian Strub noted two new officers; Officer Kostohryz and Officer Nordhus, were
sworn in at the last council meeting. Council Member Strub also wishes the best of luck to Officer
Hyland.
