The kick off meeting for the New Brighton Comprehensive Plan was held on November 9th; this is
largely a land use plan which needs to be revised/updated every 10 years.
The Employee Recognition Breakfast was held on November 10th. Congratulations to Deputy
Director Hamdorf on receiving the Michael J. Walker Spirit Award.
The Ramsey County Sheriff attended the November 22nd Council meeting to give their annual update
to the council.
Council Member Strub and Director Paetznick talked about the new CAD system which has the
ability to create a response plan to send the closest fire apparatus; this is called Closest Unit
Dispatching, and gets the right resources headed to the fire call right away. Council Member Strub is
immensely impressed with the leaders in our community to be able to agree to do this for the benefit
of the residents.
Old Business
A. Lock Boxes for Citizens
Commissioner Lamp is inquiring into the pros and cons of lock boxes. Director Paetznick stated he
has looked a little into Roseville's program which is a little different for them as their fire personnel
respond to medicals. Director Paetznick stated we don't see a big problem with this in our
community. He noted an option would be a private lock box instead.
B. Commission Role in Public Safety Director Selection Process
This item is no longer an issue since Director Paetznick has been appointed the Director of Public
Safety.
New Business
A. City Council Referrals
1. Brighton Shores (Long Lake Road/Beach Road) Street Light Request
2. Robin Lane Traffic Concerns
Director Paetznick reported that Mr. Craig Schlichting, Director of Community Assets
and Development, will present to the Commission on these two items at the January
meeting.
3. Police Body Worn Cameras
Director Paetznick reported we plan to have a presentation regarding this item at the
February commission meeting; with a chance for public input.
Commissioner Conway inquired about the Commission process. Council Member Strub stated that
applications will be accepted for new commissioners and for commissioners whose terms are
expiring. Then the commission applicants will have an interview with Council and city staff and then
appointments for the commissions are made.
