have.
Director Breuer stated there will be a trail/sidewalk that will connect the North,
Central and South Parks.
Chair Frischman noted that the street that goes into the parking lot comes from the
new development. To get to the ball fields you need to drive through the housing
development. The City has worked very hard to work with Ramsey County to obtain
access to the North Park from Long Lake Park. The County does want it; it is not part
of their plan. They do not mind the walking access, but they do not want to give
driving access from Long Lake Park. The entrance to the North Park, through the
development is the only access to North Park.
Commissioner Kunesh-Podein inquired if those purchasing the new homes will be
aware that this is the situation. The Commission felt it important that they know.
Councilmember Strub thought there may be speed bumps necessary.
Commissioner Fields did not think it would be any different than what residents on
the east side of Hansen Park deal with from that parking lot.
Director Breuer stated this plan has not yet gone to Council and not been approved
yet.
Chair Frischman reiterated that the window of time is very short now. The decisions
on this park will be coming very soon. Is there any more we need to do?
Director Breuer said PREC has already made the recommendation. It needs to get
on the Council agenda.
Chair Frischman expressed concern about the trails and their locations since the
plan has changed. She is concerned that they do not get too chaotic. The strategic
plan was put together years ago, but you have to be flexible with the economic
changes and changes in ownership. The folks at Applewood Pointe are able to come
down to the Community Center but they hit a glitch when they get to the bridge. The
bridge is challenging. So far, the connections with bike and walking paths are without
a problem on the west side.
Commissioner Brunell thought the parking lot looked big and wondered if that was to
accommodate two games at one time. Director Breuer stated that was correct.
Chair Frischman stated we had talked about a certain kind of lighting that would work
for this park that wouldn't flood neighborhoods.
VI.
