March 4, 2015 Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission Page 5

Pickleball – we have about 19 participants that play up at the Highview
gym. It runs 5:30 – 8:30 on Tuesdays up at Highview.
145 trees were ordered for the Missouri gravel bed. Last year we
planted 117 and 115 survived. Most go on boulevards or City parks to
replace trees lost by EAB or other diseases. If a resident wants a tree
planted on their boulevard, contact the City. W e ask that you water it.
(This is our 3rd year of this program). We will utilize the trees left in the
gravel bed over the winter for our Arbor Day tree planting.
Currently trimming in the parks; Sunny Square, Hidden Oaks,
Creekview and Meadow Wood.
Youth soccer camps had 27 participants this month and Little Tigers
martial arts had 26 participants. We have seen an increase in
gymnastics and other programs.
Pat Tuma worked with auditors on the State sales tax and did a
wonderful job; completing a book and binder to explain it to the
auditors. Did a great job on the spreadsheets.
Softball registrations have already begun.
Brightwood Hills Golf Course is taking registrations for leagues. The
average opening date in Minnesota is April 7.
Men’s locker room opened. We started demolition of the old women’s
locker room area. The family restrooms, personal needs room will go
in and additional lobby space. Hoping to have the project wrapped up
the end of March.
Parks took delivery of a new John Deere Gator. This item was due for
replacement in the fleet budget.
Ice rinks coming to a close. Only staffing Sunny Square.

Chair Frischman thanked those involved in getting the Commission back
in the Council Chambers. The public is always welcome at the meetings.

Councilmember Strub commented about the annual tree sale the City is
involved with along with Ramsey County. You can go to
friendsoftheparks.org to purchase trees or donate one.

IX. Adjournment
MOTION BY COMMISSIONER FIELDS, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER
EISCHEN, TO ADJOURN AT 8:37 P.M. MOTION CARRIED.

Respectfully submitted by,
Sandy Breuer
Director of Parks and Recreation
