March 4, 2015 Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission Page 4 <br /> <br />and east side. Also, there may be more discussion regarding the corner of 10th <br />Street and Old Hwy. 8. Also, we may want to have more discussion on the Hidden <br />Oaks trail. <br /> <br />VIII. Announcements <br />A. Council Report – Council Member Strub <br />Council Member Strub stated the work session scheduled for last evening <br />was postponed. The meeting is on the urban farming issue. This is an area <br />that residents are interested in. There is more info on the City’s website under <br />government, task forces and commissions. There is a tab for the urban <br />farming task force. There will be at least one more work session and then <br />some proposed ordinances in March and April. A public hearing is also <br />scheduled because it is an important community topic. Council Member Strub <br />encouraged Commission members to visit the Pulte model homes. Council <br />did not officially endorse the recommendation from this Commission but the <br />Council did have a healthy discussion about North Park back in January. <br />There is agreement in concept but no particular endorsement or support. <br />There was no rejection either. He stated he understands that this <br />Commission would like to know if their recommendations are actually <br />endorsed at this time. Chair Frischman agreed that the Commission would <br />like some clarity. <br />B. Chair Updates <br />Chair Frischman stated she is sad to say goodbye to Commissioner Lisa <br />Cook who is leaving this Commission. Her interest is pulling her in a different <br />direction. Council is taking applications and conducting interviews. <br />Chair Frischman also noted that at the April 1st meeting we will also be voting <br />on a new Chairperson. Director Breuer stated that in the candidate <br />requirements in the PREC Handbook under Article 4, Section 2-64 <br />Chairperson there is some basic criteria to review if you would like to consider <br />this position or recommend someone. <br /> <br />C. Commission Reports on Parks <br />Driftwood: Parker. Looks good. Net torn. <br />Freedom: Brunell. Looked good. Ice looked good. Kids skating. <br />Hansen: Fields. Looks good. <br />Hidden Oaks: Frischman. Looks good. <br />Innsbruck: Kunesh-Podein. Lights. <br />Meadow Wood: Eischen. No problem. <br />Silver Oaks No report. <br />Sunny Square/Veterans: <br />CM Liaison Strub. Ice at Sunny Square is good and available for <br /> skating. <br />Totem Pole No report. <br />Vermont: Cook No report. <br /> <br />D. Department Happenings / upcoming events <br />Director Breuer reported on a few of the happenings. <br /> Change of Heart Program. Partnered with the American Heart Assoc. <br />on the go red for women. It draws attention to heart disease. Had 68 <br />people donate to this cause. There was a big Zumba party in the gym <br />for this event. It was headed up by Patrice Atkinson who did a <br />wonderful job with this 2nd year opportunity.
