November 4, 2015 Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission Minutes Page 3 <br /> <br />C. Commission Reports on Parks <br />Driftwood: Parker. The park is in pretty good shape. It is getting quite a bit <br />of use. <br />Freedom: Brunell. Hockey rink looks like it is making progress. There <br />actually were parking spaces open in the lot. There is a log south of the <br />climbing wall. Parks Superintendent Chris Wolla mentioned that will be <br />coming out this winter. <br />Hansen: Fields. Still a few trail lights out. Parks Superintendent Chris <br />Wolla stated he talked to the electrician several times. Hope to have them <br />working this week. Police were also contacted about it. Commissioner <br />Fields stated there are new cameras on the Neighborhood Center. There <br />have been issues with Frisbee golfers not having their dogs leased. <br />Commissioner Fields felt it would be appropriate to have a message sent <br />to the Frisbee golfers about this issue. <br />Hidden Oaks: Frischman. No need of attention. It looks good. <br />Innsbruck: Kunesh-Podein. Looks really good and it is getting lots of use. <br />Lights are all working. Grass is coming in nicely in the area where there <br />were ruts. <br />Meadow Wood: Eischen. No Report. <br />Silver Oaks/Totem Pole: Justin. Silver Oaks: Sent a list of items to Chris <br />and Sandy. Tennis court - no action yet? Parks Superintendent Wolla <br />stated he is still in communication with Director of Community Assets and <br />Development, Craig Schlichting. Commissioner Justin stated that area is <br />starting to get some wear and tear. The bike rack anchor was not in the <br />ground. Not a heavily-used park. Maybe more games could be moved <br />there. Totem Pole: The park is heavily used; especially the basketball <br />court with the lights. There were some people playing touch football in the <br />old hockey rink area. <br />Sunny Square/Vermont: McEathron. Sunny Square: Nothing changed. <br />Vermont: around playground are railroad ties one of ties is split and spikes <br />are now sticking out. <br />Veterans: Stenglein. The park looks good. There is nothing to report. <br />D. Department Happenings / upcoming events <br />Director Breuer highlighted a few of the Department Happenings: <br /> Our Park Maintenance Worker-Forester finished planting boulevard <br />trees from the Missouri gravel bed. A total of 68 trees were planted <br />on boulevards and 48 planted in city parks and public property. The <br />gravel bed will over-winter 25 trees for spring plantings and Arbor <br />Day. <br /> Brightwood Hills hosted a cross country meet for the Middle <br />Schools and Mounds View Community Education. There were 85 <br />runners and the weather was beautiful. <br /> <br />Director Breuer stated she wanted to congratulate Commissioner Stenglein on <br />completing his half marathon. <br /> <br />Commissioner Justin inquired if we will be meeting in December to discuss with <br />Kyle Axtell, of the Rice Creek Watershed District, the Hansen Park project? <br /> <br />Director Breuer stated if there is more information ready and available from Mr.
