court you have about 30 ft. behind you to chase a ball. On the
permanent Pickleball Court you have a net behind you and a fence so
there is only about 10 ft you would have to chase a ball. People will
play 3, 4, or 5 times per week. The temporary nets are not firm in the
ground, they sit on top of the surface of the court and could be
knocked down if they are run into.
• Tennis players do not like playing on courts that are also lined for
Pickleball.
• At Highview they have 4-8 people waiting to play.
Inquiry: Is the asphalt surface contributing to the water issue residents are
having in that area?
• Director Breuer stated she spoke with Craig Schlichting, Director of
Community Development and Assets, and he stated that run off is not
significant and is not a significant issue to the water problem.
Inquiry: Is it possible to put Pickleball Courts at Hansen after dredging project
is complete.
No because that area where the 2 small ball fields were will not be flat, it
will be a hill.
Inquiry: How much to replace tennis court and can it be guaranteed that
won't have the same water issue? Chris Wolla, Parks Superintendent felt
they could guarantee won't have the same water issue because all current
asphalt would be removed and would only have one layer of asphalt with a
coating on it. Estimate about $45,000 - $50,000.
Inquiry: Is there enough parking?
If you have designated time, think that parking would be sufficient.
Sometimes you can get 6 Pickleball Courts on 2 tennis courts. It depends
on the court. We would have to check the layout of Hidden Oaks. At Silver
Oaks Chris Wolla would recommend two portable net Pickleball courts.
Inquiry: Would 2 Pickleball courts be sufficient at one location?
John Melgrum recommended 4 Pickleball Courts at one location. You
need enough people showing up to play so you can keep the games
going. They use Google Calendar to say whether they would be there or
not and that helped to know who would be there. In 2014 started with 40
players and in 3 years they were up to 320 people. There is no lighting at
Hidden Oaks.
Silver Oaks is the one we are looking at. Do we want to update a different
court now as opposed to waiting until 2022?
Hansen and Hidden Oaks are the only two locations that would work for
adding 4 Pickleball courts. PREC could make a recommendation to
Council. Chris Wolla stated he has requested a quote for work at Hidden
Oaks to convert to 6 pickleball courts but has not yet received the quote
back.
Hidden Oaks is more attractive because not too many residents live close.
The Pickleball noise would not disturb many. Parking: most park in the
lots, but perhaps 5 or 10 would have to be on the street.
Commissioners decided they need more information before making a
decision about adding Pickleball courts. Recommend doing another survey in
3
