They provide the Pickleball balls for play <br />and have a banquet at the end of the year, buy brooms and squeegees. <br />Charge $15 to club members. <br />Commissioner Fields felt they needed to know if they would put Pickleball <br />Courts somewhere before making a decision on how to move forward with <br />Silver Oaks. <br />Commissioner Stenglein felt he could make a decision this evening because <br />he said Silver Oaks should be resurfaced with the two temporary Pickleball <br />courts added. The decision about having 4 Pickleball courts at another <br />location was a separate issue. <br />Don't have funding for adding 4 Pickleball courts somewhere until 2022. <br />MOTION BY COMMISSIONER FIELDS, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER <br />STENGLEIN, TO APPROVE OPTION 3 TO RECONSTRUCT THE SILVER <br />OAKS COURT FOR TENNIS AND MARK THE COURT FOR PICKLEBALL <br />PLAY. PICKLEBALL COURTS WOULD BE MARKED TO ALLOW FULL <br />COURT PLAY WITH PORTABLE NETS AT THE DESIGNATED HEIGHT. <br />DURING THE SCHEDULED RECONSTRUCTION IN 2022, INSTALL <br />DEDICATED PICKLEBALL COURTS AT ONE OF THE SITES THAT <br />CURRENTLY HAS 2 TENNIS COURTS. MOTION CARRIED. <br />The Commission agreed that this agenda item will be brought back for <br />discussion in January or February. <br />Staff summary memo on dedicated Outdoor Pickleball Courts <br />Staff power point on dedicated Outdoor Pickleball Courts <br />Assistant Director Jason Hicks showed the Pickleball presentation. <br />New Brighton Dog Park (added to agenda by Commissioner Brunell) <br />Commissioner Brunell stated he felt it was important for New Brighton to have <br />a dog park like other communities such as Shoreview and Roseville. He has <br />also had requests from neighbors and others in the parks walking their dogs. <br />He did research. Star Tribune did a report and 32% of Minnesota homes have <br />dogs. There are approximately 3,100 dogs in New Brighton. He also learned <br />that Minnesota is 50th in the Country for having the fattest dogs. Hansen Park <br />is sometimes a "dog park" in the summer and the tennis court at Hansen is <br />often used as a "dog park" in the winter. Commissioner Fields stated the past <br />year, that was really minimal. Commissioner Brunell thought the location <br />could be Hansen where the two ballfields are being removed. But that was <br />before he knew there was going to be dirt moved there as a result of the Rice <br />Creek Watershed Project. Chair Kunesh-Podein stated there is a dog park <br />that has a hill that overlooks some water. Also, dog parks serve as <br />socialization for the dogs and also their owners. It is important that there be <br />trees for shade. Commissioner McEathron asked if Ramsey County would <br />consider a dog park at Long Lake Park? <br />4 <br />
