Meadow Wood: Eischen. No report.
Silver Oaks/Totem Pole: Justin. Fence needs some repair.
Sunny Square/Vermont: McEathron. Was last at the parks before the last
snowfall. Looked good.
Veterans: No report.
D. Department Happenings / upcoming events
Director Fink commented that with new Eagles Nest opening, we have had
many more people in our facility. We have had some altercations that
involved Public Safety. Director Fink would like to thank Public Safety for their
help maintaining a safe environment for everyone.
Have also been working with Community Assets and Development
Department as they work on the Comprehensive Plan which is a massive
project. This involves communication with the community through surveys
and they are finding that the community values Parks and Recreation. Nine
out of ten of our residents, experience our parks. However, not nine out of ten
are happy with what we provide in our parks. This provides us with a great
opportunity to look forward. Our last strategic plan was done in 2006. At that
time the school district enrollment was on the decline. Now that has changed
and the district is not accepting those outside the district.
Parks and Recreation needs to look at its Strategic Plan; including Pickleball,
Gaga Pits and things we cannot even foresee right now. The Department goal
is to look at our CIP plan, engage the community, users and non-users, look
at those not using the parks and find out why. Would like to be in the
forefront of What is Health and Wellness in the future. As Director, look at all
those things together and meet the needs of all our citizens. Every year we
will do a 5 year engagement process and do an update to the plan. Want to
be visionary, not reactionary, in how we are putting our system together. In
the next year we will look at how to accomplish this.
Chair Fields said this sounds exciting and he likes the idea of looking at our
parks in a new way.
Director Fink stated there our dance program is going on right now at
Highview. The Senior Program is incredible with the number of opportunities
available and the Bridge program is huge. Director Fink is partaking in some
Personal Training and is in the fitness areas before work.
Forestry boulevard tree planting program planted 143 trees this fall.
Facility rentals saw an increase of 10% over last year at this time.
Brightwood is closed. Hosted boutique at the Golf Course again.
VII. Adjournment
MOTION BY COMMISSIONER JUSTIN, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER
QUADE, TO ADJOURN AT 7:53 P.M. ALL AYES, MOTION CARRIED.
