March 23, 2021 <br />Councilmember Allen commented this proj ect would be difficult for residents. He encouraged the public to <br />be patient as the City works through this project this summer noting the City was working to create a better <br />experience for traffic along the Old Highway 8 corridor. <br />Motion by Councilmember Allen, seconded by Councilmember Axberg to approve the plans and <br />specifications for Public Improvement Project 20-6, Traffic Signal at Old Highway 8 and 8th Avenue, <br />to approve Amendment 2 to the Professional Services Agreement with Kimley Horn; and to authorize <br />Staff to Advertise for Bids. <br />A roll call vote was taken. <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays -Motion Carried <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br />Devin Massopust <br />City Manager Massopust reported staff will be launching the application process for the zoning <br />steering committee. He noted staff would be reviewing the applications directly and the <br />Council will be approving the appointments at a later date. It was his hope to have this steering <br />committee up and running in late April or May. <br />Abdullahi Abdulle <br />Councilmember Abdulle reported the Planning Commission met on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 <br />and both items discussed were addressed by the City Council this evening. He explained he <br />attended two Ramsey County League of Local Government meetings on Friday, March 19, <br />2021. <br />Graeme Allen <br />Councilmember Allen reported there was a suspicious fire that occurred on the 700 block of <br />19th Avenue West this past weekend. He encouraged anyone with information on this fire to <br />contact the Public Safety Department. He congratulated Brenna Paetznick for being one of <br />three winners of the Minnesota League of Minnesota Cities 2020 Mayor for a Day Essay <br />Contest. <br />Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas <br />Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas congratulated Brenna Paetznick for her tremendous efforts on the <br />essay contest. She hoped to be in touch with Brenna in order for her to serve as Mayor of New <br />Brighton for a day. She thanked Deputy Director Trevor Hamdorf for leading emergency <br />services with regard to the pandemic.
