CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />WHEREAS, in 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the <br />calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week; and <br />WHEREAS, there are more than 800,000 sworn law enforcement officers serving in communities across the <br />United States, including the dedicated members of the New Brighton Department of Public Safety; and <br />WHEREAS, New Brighton Police Officers quickly adjusted roles to lead the local response to the COVID-19 <br />global pandemic, providing testing for the municipal workplace, coordinating and promoting community <br />vaccination efforts, providing meal deliveries to residents, compiling and sharing data through the COVID-19 <br />Dashboard, and much more; and <br />WHEREAS, they further provided community support through leveraging existing partnerships, and creatively <br />engaged with the community, including an award-winning virtual National Night Out 2020; and <br />WHEREAS, they also responded to unprecedented challenges in American policing during the past year, <br />including ensuring the safety of our City and residents during periods of civil unrest and ensuring the integrity <br />of the election process; and <br />WHEREAS, New Brighton reaffirmed its public safety model of local law enforcement, creating the LISTEN <br />initiative dedicated to the openness and transparency of; and <br />WHEREAS, New Brighton Department of Public Safety police officers have committed to enhancing the welfare <br />and wellbeing of all residents and will continue to be an example for good and effective policing for all; <br />NOW, THEREFORE I, KA RI NIEDFELD T- THOMA S, Mayor of The City of New Brighton, Minnesota do <br />hereby proclaim May 9-15, 2021: <br />Police Week <br />in the City of New Brighton. <br />NEW IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my <br />hand and caused the Seal of the City of New Brighton, Minnesota to be <br />Sol BRIGHTON affixed this 27`h day of April, 2021. <br />building tomorrow today <br />KARL NIEDFELDT-THOMAS - MAYOR <br />
