Police Body Worn Cameras. <br /> City Manager Lotter indicated Public Safety Director Paetznick would be presenting this item to the Council. <br /> Public Safety Director Paetznick stated consistent with recommendations from the President's Task Force <br /> Report on 21st Century Policing,City Council referred consideration of police body worn cameras to the <br /> Public Safety Commission,which studied the issue extensively in 2017. As part of that process,the Public <br /> Safety Commission previously received public comments about implementing police body worn cameras <br /> and a draft policy for consideration,both steps which are also required by statute. With staffing and <br /> investments made to the IT Department during 2018,Public Safety and IT are now ready to recommend <br /> implementation of a police body worn camera system for the law enforcement agency. IT has developed a <br /> project management timeline to fully implement the police body worn camera system during the second <br /> quarter of 2019. Finally,state law requires biennial audits of the system and summary reporting to the City <br /> Council on the findings.
