Special Proclamation Recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the Construction of St John's Recognizing the 501h <br /> Church. Anniversary of the <br /> Construction of St. <br /> John's Church. <br /> Motion by Councilmember Burg, seconded by Councilmember Jacobsen to approve a <br /> Special Proclamation recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the Construction of St.John's <br /> Church. <br /> 5 Ayes,0 Nays-Motion Carried <br /> Mayor Johnson read a proclamation in full for the reconJ recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the construction <br /> of St.John's Church in the City of New Brighton. She explained she had a long history with St.John's <br /> Church as she attended school here and was present at the church's first mass. She stated she remembers <br /> watching the bells being put into the bell towers. She commented Monsignor Paul was a long-time friend of <br /> hers and noted she attended his funeral. She indicated she was married at St.John's Church and reported this <br /> church would always hold a special place in her heart. <br /> Councilmember Jacobsen explained he was named after Monsignor Paul. He reported his relatives have <br /> been a part of St John's since before this building was built. He commented he also remembered when the <br /> bells were put into the bell towers. He stated this church meant a lot to the community and served as a great <br /> foundation for the City. <br /> Councilmember Burg indicated she also attended St.John's Church school from 1'Grade through 8th Grade. <br /> She recalled the groundbreaking ceremony for this church and explained this church has meant a great deal to <br /> her family over the years. She explained this church was a major part of the community. <br /> Father Michael Sklnwcek introduced himselfto the Council noting he was the current Pastor at St.John's the <br /> Baptist Church. He stated he was honored to receive this Proclamation on behalf of his congregation. He <br /> reported he had over 200 parishioners who were around when the church was built in 1968. He indicated it <br /> was his hope that both the building and the parishioners or bricks on the community would be honored this <br /> year. <br /> Father Paul Shovelain explained he was the Associate Pastor at St.John's and noted he also served as the <br />
