He <br /> explained he came to the DMV and spoke to Terri Spangrud and asked how he could be more involved in the <br /> community. That was when he was told about the open position on the Planning Commission. <br /> Mayor Johnson asked why he would be a good person to represent the community and advise the City Council. <br /> Mr. Tuke explained he had a good education and MBA. He commented he worked for US Bank for 10 years <br /> where he reviewed policies and procedures. He believed his work with US Bank made him a good candidate. <br /> Councilmember Jacobsen asked what the most important responsibilities a commission member had to the <br /> community. <br /> Mr. Tuke stated he believed Commissioners should not be doing things that are wrong and should be involved <br /> in the community. <br /> Councilmember Burg asked how he would respond if a member of the community were to contact him <br /> expressing opposition to an item being addressed by your commission. <br /> Mr. Tuke indicated he could offer an explanation, with a how and why on the decision. He stated right now he <br /> works for TSA and works with people a lot. He commented people do not always agree and his job was to <br /> explain why things operated they way they did. He <br /> Councilmember Burg asked if these actions would change if it was a lifelong friend. <br /> Mr. Tuke commented he would still explain why the decision was made. He would encourage the person to <br /> attend a City meeting. <br /> Councilmember Allen reported each commission is tasked with making recommendations to the City Council. <br /> He asked how Mr. Tuke would respond if he disagreed with a policy or Ordinance already in place. <br /> Mr. Tuke stated his position on the Planning Commission would be to make a recommendation. He indicated <br /> he would make a recommendation and explain why things should be a certain way. He commented it would be <br /> the City Council's job to implement or not implement the recommendation. <br /> Mayor Johnson asked what the City's biggest challenges were. <br /> Mr. Tuke explained he believed the City's biggest challenge was to get the message to its citizens. He stated <br /> there was an issue with communication between the City and its residents. <br /> Mayor Johnson discussed the process the Council would be following for the committee member <br /> appointments. She thanked Mr. Tuke for his interest in serving and asked if he had any questions. <br /> Mr. Tuke questioned why this position was open at this time and questioned when the Planning Commission <br /> met. <br /> Lotter reported a commissioner moved outside of the City and could no longer serve on the Planning <br /> Commission. He explained the Planning Commission was an advisory commission to the City Council that <br /> reviewed land use cases. He discussed the types of cases that the Planning Commission reviewed and <br /> discussed. He noted the planning Commission met on the Third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. <br />
