May 25,2021 Page 7 of 8 <br /> 5 Ayes,0 Nays-Motion Carried <br /> Commission Liaison Reports,Announcements and Updates Commission Liaison <br /> Reports, <br /> Announcements and <br /> Devin Massopust Updates <br /> City Manager Massopust encouraged the public to go online and vote for their favorite design <br /> for the park that would be created in the Midtown Village area. He explained the Council <br /> would be discussing funding options and implementation of the Parks Comprehensive Plan at <br /> their June 1st worksession meeting. <br /> Graeme Allen <br /> Councilmember Allen reported the Public Safety Department would be meeting next on <br /> Monday, June 14th. He congratulated Geoff Holliman and Karen Wagner for being appointed <br /> Chair and Vice Chair. He reported Dan Judd would be appointed to the Public Safety <br /> Commission after the recent resignation of long-time member Tonya Kessler. He encouraged <br /> residents that have not been vaccinated to do so. He thanked all of the residents that spoke at <br /> Public Comment. <br /> Emily Dunsworth <br /> Councilmember Dunsworth reported Councilmember Axberg attended the PREC meeting for <br /> her in June. She noted she attended a Cable Commission meeting last Thursday where she <br /> learned David Rosenblum, the finance director, would be retiring. She encouraged residents to <br /> remember that one year ago today George Floyd was murdered in Minneapolis. <br /> Pam Axberg <br /> Councilmember Axberg wished everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. <br /> Abdullahi Abdulle <br /> Councilmember Abdulle provided the Council with an update from the Planning Commission <br /> noting they met on Tuesday, May 18th. He discussed his thoughts on the one-year anniversary <br /> of George Floyd's death. He explained he had no words to describe how he feels. He reported <br /> he was a Black male that lives in this country as a first generation immigrant. However, he <br /> faces a lot of the same circumstances as the Black Americans in this country. He explained he <br /> used to work for the City of Minneapolis and he was sad that this was not behind us. He feared <br /> the country has not made any progress and there were so many voices that were not being <br /> heard. He stated he was proud that the City of New Brighton was taking some steps in the right <br /> direction. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas reported a number of Councilmembers have had a burning in their <br /> hearts to do something. She appreciated the new focus and priorities of the City Council and <br /> she recognized staff for working with the Council to address these priorities. She thanked this <br /> group for pushing aside fear and for having courage to take on a new Commission. She <br /> discussed how this work would benefit the residents of New Brighton. She discussed the <br /> events that had been planned for Memorial Day in the community and encouraged people to <br /> honor and celebrate this day. She noted the Long Lake Improvement Association recently held <br /> their annual meeting. She encouraged residents to be respectful and to work to keep the lake <br /> safe. She commented on the great feedback she received from the recently held citywide <br /> garage sale. She noted she attended the North Metro Mayors Association meeting where <br /> Representative Sarah Stroman discussed the use of parks over the last year. She indicated the <br /> New Brighton Area Historical Society will be holding their rhubarb sale on June 5th and June <br />
