While the use is allowed to continue under state
law, its impacts cannot be expanded. Accordingly, FedEx is currently before the City seeking
approval of a special purpose fence to address lighting and sound concerns from the nearby
Enclave neighborhood. The special purposed fence would be the last component of corrective
actions needed to address the problem(s). Staff reported the Planning Commission reviewed
this request and recommended approval with conditions.
Councilmember Abdulle asked why the employee parking lot was located outside of the wall.Assistant
Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola reported the initial complaints were from the
lighting and activity from the trucking operation. He noted when staff reached out to FedEx,teams responded
quickly and adjusted the lights. He commented the only concerns now were about noise, which the wall
would address. He indicated the employee cars were creating a short term light wash at shift change, but the
main concern with the lights from the site had been addressed
Councilmember Abdulle questioned if the wall could include the employee parking lot.Assistant Director of
Community Assets and Development Gozola explained the proximity of the wall to the trucking was
designed in a manner to absorb more sound. He noted if the wall was pushed further away from the trucking
use,the sound levels could increase, which meant the wall height would have to increase.
Councilmember Axberg thanked FedEx for working with staff to address the light and noise concerns from
this property.
Councilmember Allen thanked FedEx for being a good community partner and for addressing the concerns
of the neighbors.
Motion by Councilmember Dunsworth, seconded by Councilmember Axberg to approve a
Resolution approving a special purpose fence to provide a light and sound barrier for the
Fed Ex facility at 50 14th Street NW.
5 Ayes,0 Nays-Motion Carried
Commission Liaison
Commission Liaison Reports,Announcements and Updates Reports,
Announcements and
Updates
Devin Massopust
City Manager Massopust reported National Night Out would be held on Tuesday, August 3.
Graeme Allen
Councilmember Allen reported the Public Safety Commission would meet next on Monday,
August 9 at 6:30 p.m. He explained he met with City Manager Massopust, Mayor Niedfeldt-
Thomas and the owner of Oak Grove properties to discuss some issues.
Emily Dunsworth
Councilmember Dunsworth reported the Zoning Code Steering Committee met on Wednesday,
July 14.
