<br />Deputy Director Hamdorf reviewed the crime stats for the community for the past month <br />noting thefts continue to be a concern, with the majority being gas drive offs. He discussed <br />the number of traffic stops for the year and noted medicals represent one-third of the <br />departments calls. He encouraged residents to check the batteries in their smoke and carbon <br />monoxide detectors. He noted New Brighton Auto off of Old Highway 8 will market <br />catalytic convertors for residents in the community. He stated a vaccine clinic would be held <br />at the Community Center the next three Wednesdays in New Brighton for children 5 to 11 <br />along with adult boosters. He reported appointments were necessary for the vaccine clinic. <br /> <br />C. City Council Update – Graeme Allen, Councilmember <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen provided the Commission with an update from the City Council. He <br />stated he enjoyed attending the Public Safety Open House and Pumpkin Walk. He reported <br />the City Council would meet next on Tuesday, November 9 and would be discussing utility <br />rates. He explained the City was working its way through the City with the street sweeper at <br />this time. He indicated the City’s newest park called Brightside Park was now open. He <br />stated the City hired a new DEI Coordinator and discussed the work this individual would be <br />doing on behalf of the City of New Brighton. <br /> <br />VI. Presentations and Business Items <br /> <br />A. Traffic Safety Requests – Craig Schlichting, Director of Community Assets & <br />Development (DCAD), Dan Olson & Trevor Hamdorf, Deputy Director of Public Safety <br /> <br />Deputy Director Hamdorf and Director Schlichting provided the Commission with a <br />presentation on how traffic safety requests are made to the City. He reviewed the City’s <br />policies for regulatory signs. Common safety issues were discussed which included <br />speeding, crosswalk safety, on-street parking, uncontrolled intersections and street light <br />concerns. The process staff follows for signage requests was reviewed in further detail with <br />the Commission. The City’s common practices for crosswalks was discussed. He then <br />commented on a crosswalk request that was made for Innsbruck Drive and noted Innsbruck <br />Park was a destination for residents in the neighborhood. He reported staff could add signage <br />to Innsbruck Drive but noted adding a crosswalk and trail would take further consideration. <br />Staff recommended pedestrian ramps, zebra crosswalk striping, signage, and pilot crosswalk <br />flags all be installed in the summer of 2022. <br /> <br />Discussion included: <br />• Chair Hollimon was interested in having the residential speed limit reduced from 30 <br />miles per hour to 25 miles per hour. It was noted the Council was discussing this <br />matter. <br />• Chair Hollimon agreed the intersection of Innsbruck Drive and Silver Lake Road was <br />a concern. <br />• Staff discussed how they could speak with Ramsey County regarding traffic concerns <br />along Silver Lake Road. <br />• Councilmember Allen commented on how bump outs adversely impact bicyclists. <br /> <br />Motion by Kuipers, seconded by Judd to recommend the City Council consider safety <br />improvements and signage on Innsbruck Drive at 27th as suggested by staff. Motion carried <br />6-0. <br /> <br />VII. Adjournment <br />
