<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />New Brighton Equity Commission <br />Regular Meeting – January 20, 2022 <br />6:30 p.m. <br /> <br />I. Call to Order <br /> <br />The virtual meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. and staff introduced themselves to the <br />Commission members. <br /> <br />Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas introduced herself to the Commission and thanked them for their <br />willingness to serve the community. She then asked the Commission members to introduce <br />themselves to the group. <br /> <br />II. Roll Call <br /> <br />Members Present: Carlos Herrera, Kristin Lau, Jonas Lim, Kami Miller, Sanja Obradovic, <br />Lindsay Spooner, Jason Steffenhagen, Ruben Vasquez, and Ellen Weber <br /> <br />Members Absent: None <br /> <br />Also Present: DEI Coordinator Mark Suggs, City Manager Devin Massopust, City Clerk Terri <br />Spangrud, and Mayor Kari Niedfeldt-Thomas <br /> <br />III. Commission Orientation <br /> <br />City Manager Massopust explained the City offered orientation to new Commissioners in order <br />to define the role they play on behalf of the City. He stated after the orientation was complete, <br />he would like to hold an informal brainstorming session in order to better understand what the <br />Commissioners would like to achieve on the Equity Commission. <br /> <br />City Clerk Spangrud provided a presentation on Commission Orientation which addressed the <br />role and responsibilities for Commission members. She explained New Brighton was a statutory <br />Plan B city with four City Councilmembers and a Mayor. It was noted each Commission was <br />assigned a Council liaison (Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas) and staff member (DEI Coordinator <br />Suggs). She reported the Equity Commission would serve as an advisory group to the City <br />Council. She indicated the City was seeking a student commissioner to serve with this group. <br /> <br />City Manager Massopust commented on the work of the internal Equity Strategy Team. He <br />reported this group was formed mid-2021. He explained Lisa Tabor with CultureBrokers would <br />be attending the February Equity Commission meeting to speak in depth about the City’s equity <br />framework.
