<br /> <br />organizational capacity of the City to operational equity while also being asked to identify issues <br />that require attention. In addition, this group would be doing human rights work along with <br />addressing regional issues. He reviewed the guiding principles for the Commissioners. <br /> <br />City Clerk Spangrud commented on the expectations for the Commission members with respect <br />to creating a positive work environment, making decisions based on merit, the need to comply <br />with federal and state law, and to make disclosures when necessary to avoid corruption. Data <br />practices laws and open meeting law requirements were then reviewed. <br /> <br />City Manager Massopust discussed best practices for communication and encouraged <br />Commissioners to loop in staff liaison DEI Coordinator Suggs. He encouraged the Commission <br />to have focused discussions at meetings and to keep information confidential for certain types of <br />data. He requested members let staff know if they would not be able to attend a meeting. He <br />welcomed all members to use social media but to remember they were a representative of the <br />City of New Brighton now. He explained the Commission would be nominating a Chair and <br />Vice Chair at its next meeting. <br /> <br />City Clerk Spangrud commented on the IT use policy for City issued iPads. She encouraged <br />Commission members to review their packet prior to each meeting in order to assist in making <br />good decisions and to be able to fully participate in discussions. She discussed how members <br />could access Granicus and Outlook, along with the common file folder. <br /> <br />The goals for the Equity Commission included: <br /> To have this Commission be a resource and sounding board for the community. <br /> To provide insight to the City Council. <br /> To hold conversations and be proactive on some of the issues that may arise in the <br />community. <br /> To learn what inequities were in the community. <br /> To understand this would not be easy work and that patience and thoughtfulness would <br />be required. <br /> To be mindful of how a body responds when discussions become difficult or heated. <br /> To engage the youth in the community to amplify their voices. <br /> To be champions for the great City of New Brighton. <br /> To be respectful, while collaborating and learning from each other. <br /> <br />IV.
