<br /> <br />She provided the Commission with a presentation on the work CultureBrokers has been doing <br />for the City, which was to assist with setting up a governance structure and management function <br />the helps the City achieve racial equity both now and into the future. She explained <br />CultureBrokers has worked with over 100 organizations over the past 16 years to achieve this <br />very thing. She noted 10% of these organizations have been governmental organizations. She <br />discussed how CultureBrokers assisted with helping cities create a framework and integrated <br />systems that align with the cities existing mission and values. She described how the City’s <br />framework was drafted which included a governance, management/operational function and <br />philosophy. She reported all of this information was now available on the City’s website. <br />Further discussion ensued regarding how the City Council and strategy team developed an equity <br />statement for the City of New Brighton. She stated the City’s next step would be to create an <br />equity strategic action plan and to see progress being made on behalf of the community. <br /> <br />Discussion included: <br /> The Commission requested staff respond back to the Commission with the demographics <br />of those who completed the survey. Ms. Tabor noted the City received 76 high quality <br />responses. She indicated ethnic background was not requested within the survey. <br /> The Commission questioned how the City would measure where it was and where it <br />wanted to be. DEI Coordinator Suggs discussed the three specific goals that have been set <br />within the Strategic Action Plan. <br /> The Commission asked if the City’s equity statement was unique compared to other <br />municipalities. Ms. Tabor stated there was a strong emphasis on results within the City’s <br />equity statement. <br /> The Commission thanked Ms. Tabor for her detailed presentation. <br /> <br />B. Elect Chair and Vice Chair <br /> <br />Massopust stated on a yearly basis, all City Commissions are asked to recommend which of its <br />members should fill the role of Chair and Vice Chair for the coming year. He asked that the <br />Commission elect a Chair and Vice Chair to serve for the remainder of 2022. <br /> <br />Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas commented further on the role and responsibilities of the Chair and <br />Vice Chair. <br /> <br />Spooner volunteered to serve as the Chair of the Equity Commission. <br /> <br />Miller volunteered to serve as the Vice Chair of the Equity Commission. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Lim, seconded by Commissioner Weber to elect Lindsay Spooner <br />Chair of the Equity Commission for 2022. <br /> <br />A roll call vote was taken. Approved 8-0 <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Lim, seconded by Commissioner Weber to elect Kami Miller Vice <br />Chair of the Equity Commission for 2022. <br /> <br />A roll call vote was taken.
